Cycle Friendly Deal
Deal & Walmer are built on a shingle bank and the town rises gently inland as it approaches the chalk base of the North Downs.
This makes cycling a perfect activity as the flatness helps young families and older riders whilst the rolling landscape inland inspires stronger adventurers.
National Cycle Route 1 runs along the seafront and from Deal Pier down to Kingsdown, the route is traffic free. Using Route 1, riders can head north to Sandwich & Canterbury or south to The White Cliffs and Dover.
With a grant from the Coastal Community Fund and additional support and funding from Deal Town Council, Cycle Friendly Deal has been able to develop new routes, provide free events and training, install more cycle parking, start a new ebike hire scheme, create a cycle friendly business accreditation programme and produce new cycling and walking maps.

People are digging out their old bikes and even buying new bikes as the roads are quieter and riding to the shops for essentials or cycling as daily exercise are nice things to do. Here are a couple of links to help make things even better:
To help families to get out and about on their bikes, British Cycling has launched a new website Let's Ride Local. It's designed to provide cycling tips & advice as well as fun games and activities to play while out riding. There's also links to useful information on teaching kids to ride, bike maintenance and riding safely.
