History Tours by Bike

During Cycle September we’ve asked local experts to lead History Tours by bike. Below are the details. Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

5.30pm Wednesday 11 September: The History Project - Coast & Castles Discovery Ride

Come join us for a bicycle ride like no other, as we explore the invasion threat of 1539! Discover why our stretch of coastline was one of the most vulnerable points anywhere along the South Coast of England and why Henry VIII was forced to build a 2.5-mile-long fortress. This tour will explore all three masonry castles and the bulwarks too, and we’ll even learn about Deal’s shady smuggling past when criminal gangs ruled the night bringing contraband across the English Channel and avoiding the dreaded tax!

Easy pace, flat, lots of stops. Book Here

2pm Sunday 22 September: Royal Marines Heritage Trails – The Downs Ride

It’s 30 years on this date, since the devastating bombing in the Royal Marines School of Music, Deal. The founder of the Royal Marine Heritage, Trail, Bill Butler, will take you on a ride exploring the Heritage of The Royal Marines from Sandown to Kingsdown via “The Downs”!
