A beautiful award winning tiered garden in Sandown Road built by former Deal Borough Council in approximately 1947 on the site of the former historic Sandown Castle (built by Henry VIII).
The garden has been transformed by community volunteers who began in 2015 and was featured on BBC Gardeners World in 2021.
Planted with a wide variety of donated, grown and purchased pollinating perennials and bulbs specifically to attract insects and wildlife. Many plants are drought tolerant and flowering continues through the year with the most colourful times to visit being mid May and July. The group also set up Facebook Group Deal Plant Recycle.
The volunteers also plant and maintain Deal Pier Dry Planted Beds on the seafront, Ethelbert Garden in Ethelbert Road, Deal High Street Garden outside St George’s Church, Age UK’s back garden and planted wall in Park Street as well as organising community bulb planting.
Free entry accessible 24 hours a day.
Free roadside parking and wheelchair access.
Dogs on leads only.
