Local restrictions during The Open

Following years of preparation and a year-long delay due to the pandemic, Sandwich is ready to host golf’s original championship.

The first priority has been the safety of the players, officials, spectators, volunteers, event staff and the local community. Rigorous protocols are in place at Royal St George’s.

The R&A has worked tirelessly with public health officials both nationally and locally as part of the Government’s Events Research Programme and we’re doing everything to minimise the risks and to ensure that everyone can enjoy a week of world-class golf.

Practice Days for The 149th Open at Royal St George's get underway tomorrow (Sunday 11 July).

Temporary traffic regulations and parking restrictions will be in place on various roads in Sandwich and Deal, and surrounding areas from 11-18 July.

This is designed to assist with traffic management and reduce congestion in the vicinity of Royal St George’s Golf Club and Sandwich in order to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, assist traffic flow and increase safety and security for all road users.

Full details of the local restrictions can be found on the Dover District Council website: https://www.dover.gov.uk/Open-Golf/Community-engagement.aspx
