Town's first Deal Pride

On Saturday 15 July 2023, The Mayor addressed those who had gathered for and marched with Deal Pride.

Mayor at Deal Pride making a speech "Today, we gather here in Deal for the first-ever Deal Pride march. As we stand united, immersed in the vibrant colours of the rainbow, we celebrate the diverse identities and the incredible strength of our LGBTQIA+ community.

"I am pleased to address you all today as we mark this milestone in the journey toward acceptance, inclusion, and celebration of diversity. Deal Pride, an LGBTQIA+ led community organization, was born out of a vision to create a space where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can feel free to be their authentic selves.

"In just one short year, the organization has achieved remarkable feats, thanks to the dedication, generosity, and passion of the incredible team led by Chairperson Charlie Hughes and Vice Chair Esme Chilton, they collectively have brought our community closer through a series of vibrant events and initiatives.

"Today, as we take these colourful steps on the streets of Deal, we proclaim that voices will be heard, that identities will be acknowledged, and that everyone’s lives matter. The march we undertake today is not merely a procession; it is a symbol of resilience, unity, and determination to create lasting change.

"Today, as we celebrate diversity, we also acknowledge that this work is far from over. Discrimination and prejudice still persist in our society, and there are individuals within the community who face intersecting challenges and marginalization. We must strive for a world where every member of the LGBTQIA+ family can thrive, regardless of race, gender identity, socioeconomic status, or disability.

"Thank you for being a part of this extraordinary moment in Deal. Let us make it one to remember, not just for today, but for all the generations that will follow. Together, we will build a future where every individual can live authentically and with unapologetic pride.

"Happy Deal Pride, everyone!"
