Deal Saturday Market – Business as usual!

Published: 23 April 2024

Deal Saturday Market is open for business as usual this weekend but it has switched sides of the car park.

Due to works being carried out by Southern Water, Union Road will be closed until at least Friday 31 May and part of the car park closest to the High Street needs to be shut too.

This has led to a temporary change of how the market is set up on Saturdays. We have been working with traders to prepare for the change and to make sure visitors continue to enjoy our weekly market.

Although vehicle access is restricted around the Union Road closure we have been assured that pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

We would like to thank our stall holders for their support in helping us adapt so quickly.

We look forward to seeing you at our Deal Saturday Market soon!

Please see below the full details of the works as provided by Kent County Council and Dover District Council

Due to planned works in Union Road by Southern Water, a temporary Road Closure & Suspension of One-way has resulted in closing part of Union Road, Deal, from 22nd April 2024 with estimated completion by 31st May 2024.

Union Road, Deal, will be closed between the junctions of High Street and West Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via High Street, College Road, King Edward Road, Godwyn Road, Golf Road, Western Road, West Street and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

The restrictions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while allowing water works to be carried out, works are undertaken by Southern Water.

This closure will mean that the part of the Car Park used by the public on Saturday’s during these works will not be accessible from Union Road.

To allow the public to use spaces at the Car Park, Dover District Council (who own and run the Car Park) have arranged for the Deal Saturday Market to move to the back of the car park to allow the public to access the car park from Duke Street.

The following notice has been given by Dover District Council and the detail emailed to all holders of valid parking permits for the Union Road Car Park:
