Step back in time at Deal Town Hall
Published: 23 August 2024
Visitors to the Town Hall this Heritage Open Day can step back in time thanks to a unique photographic exhibition of Deal entitled ‘Life Through a Lens’.
Deal Town Council holds the Cavell Collection, an archive of photographs, postcards, lithographs, engravings and posters from across the centuries depicting the history of the town.
Not only will a selection from the collection be on display, visitors will also have the chance to learn more about the family who complied the pictures. The Cavell name was synonymous with Deal and Cavell Square continues to perpetuate the family name.
Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “This is a really exciting exhibition that opens a window to Deal’s past.
“It’s remarkable to see how much has changed in Deal in such a relatively short space of time, yet so much of its character and landmarks remain too.
“We’re very fortunate to be custodians of the Cavell Collection and I would urge those with a love of the town and its history to come and take a look!”
The ‘Life Through a Lens’ exhibition of the Cavell Collection is free to attend and will be at Deal Town Hall from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 14 September.
Heritage Open Days is a national festival that runs from Friday 6 September until Sunday 15 September. Groups and organisations across the country open their doors to celebrate heritage, community and history and many events are planned in Deal this year.
