Look after what you love - litter launch!

Published: 11 November 2024

Look After What You LoveDeal Town Council is launching its new anti-litter campaign ‘Look after what you love’ at this Saturday’s Climate Action Day.

People will be asked to choose their favourite stencil design that will be used to help stop littering at ‘hot-spots’ in the town.

Visitors to the Town Hall for Climate Action Day will receive a free tote-bag when they cast their vote to choose the most popular design.

The campaign then moves online and continues until the spring when the winning stencil will be chosen.

Chair of the Environment Committee, Cllr Sam Brookfield, said: “We want everyone to get on board and help choose the design they like best.

“The most popular image will be used to stencil a message on pavements at litter hot spots, encouraging people not to drop their rubbish on the street and guiding them to the nearest public bin.

“Litter in the town not only looks bad, it can be incredibly detrimental to wildlife, more so if it ends up in the sea.

“We’re all incredibly proud of our town so looking after what we love is something we can all take part in.”

Please note, on average, the RSPCA receives 10 calls a day about animals affected by litter. This number spikes in the summer months and they advise that by binning rubbish safely instead of littering, you are making a choice that could save many lives.
