Stay Safe This Bank Holiday Weekend – (COVID Update - 28 May)

With the Bank Holiday weekend approaching, please remember to stay safe, and follow all the latest guidance. For the latest information, please see the GOV.UK website – and remember hands, face, space, fresh air.

Lockdown latest

From 17 May, you can socialise indoors in a group of up to 6 people or 2 households, including for overnight stays. Up to 30 people can meet outside. Pubs, theatres and other venues can open indoors. Hotels, hostels and B&Bs can open for people on holiday.

For full information on what you can and cannot do, please see the latest guidance on the GOV.UK website.

Symptom-free testing update

Kent County Council has praised residents for continuing to test themselves regularly for COVID-19 and supporting the county’s road map out of lockdown. Symptom-free home testing kits are now widely available at hundreds of pharmacies and workplaces across Kent and can also be ordered online and delivered to your door.

As a result of all the different ways to access testing, and a reduction in the number of people choosing to get tested at the symptom-free testing sites, KCC is reducing the opening times of the Kent testing sites from the beginning of June.

It is vitally important that people continue take a test twice a week, even if they have been vaccinated, just to check whether or not they are unwittingly carrying the virus. One in three people with COVID-19 shows no symptoms and regular testing will ensure we put a stop to the spread of the virus.

There is a symptom-free test site in every district of Kent – including one at Sandwich Guildhall. From Tuesday 1 June until Wednesday 30 June 2021 the following changes will be taking place to opening times at the sites:

  • Monday – CLOSED
  • Tuesday – 9am-2pm
  • Wednesday – 2pm-7pm
  • Thursday – 9am-2pm
  • Friday – 9am – 7pm
  • Saturday – CLOSED
  • Sunday – 9am – 7pm.

To find out more details and book a symptom-free test, please go to the KCC website. For more information on where to get lateral flow tests, please click here.

If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, you should NOT visit a symptom-free testing site and continue to self-isolate. You can book a test for people with symptoms by visiting the GOV.UK website or by calling 119.

Vaccinations update

The Covid-19 vaccine is being offered at local vaccination centres run by GPs, at large vaccination centres, in some pharmacies and some hospitals. For the latest local details, please see the CCG website.

The vaccine is currently being given to people who:

  • Are aged 30 or over
  • Will turn 30 before 1 July 2021
  • Are at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
  • Are an eligible frontline health or social care worker
  • Have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
  • Have a learning disability
  • Are a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus.

If you are not eligible yet, please wait to be contacted. The NHS will let you know when it's your turn to have the vaccine. It's important not to contact the NHS for a vaccination before then. For more details on vaccinations, please see the NHS website.
