Happy Birthday to Deal - Charter Day 2023

Published: 03 October 2023

Join us for two days of celebration as we mark our 324th birthday.

On 13 October 1699 King William III signed a Charter that released Deal from the rule of the Port of Sandwich.

To honour our birthday there will be a service led by Revd Chris Spencer at St George’s Church on Friday 13 October at 12pm with the Mayor and Mayoress.

On Saturday 14 October the market will celebrate with live music from the Kellet Gut Shantymen and there will be 300 free Charter Day tote bags that will be given away.

Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “This year there are two ways to join us as we reflect on our journey together as a town and look forward to the future.

“The church service at St George’s is open to everyone and the Mayoress and I will also be joining the team at the market on Saturday, so we hope to see you there.

“Deal is such a special place and we are unique many ways, but it’s our spirit and community that really set us apart and that is something to be celebrated.”
