Deal Warm Welcome returns this winter

Published: 21 November 2023

Deal Warm Welcome returns to the town this winter to provide warmth, refreshment and friendship for everyone.

Funded by Deal Town Council, the project is open to all residents and this year includes additional support for people and families to heat their homes and have a hot meal.

Venues will be open across the town and across the week for people to meet in a warm and welcoming space from Monday 4 December. This year, money has also been allocated for an emergency fund that will be managed by Deal Area Foodbank and United Families, giving people direct financial and practical assistance this winter.

Deal Warm Welcome will be open from Monday 4 December until April 2024 on:

Mondays – St Richard’s Church, Mill Hill from 9am to 1pm and Golf Road Community Centre from 3pm to 6pm
Tuesdays – Trinity Church from 12.30pm to 3pm and Golf Road Community Centre from 3pm to 6pm
Wednesdays – St Andrew’s Church 9am to 11am and the St George’s Church from 12pm to 2pm
Thursdays - Golf Road Community Centre from 3pm to 6pm
Fridays – Salvation Army from 12pm to 4pm
Saturdays – Talk it Out 12pm to 2pm at Deal Angling Club – 1918, The Marina (every alternate Saturday from 9 December)

The Worshipful Town Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “Deal is a vibrant and friendly town but we must never forget those who struggle, especially in the winter, choosing between heating or eating.

“We’re very proud to be able share Deal Warm Welcome once again, last year showed us just how much support the community gave to each other.

“By holding regular gatherings, to meet up and enjoy the company of other people in a warm and welcoming space was incredibly valuable showing it wasn’t just about the cost of living crisis.

“Tremendous thanks once again to all our venues, Kent Coast Volunteering, Deal Foodbank and United Families and the army of warm-hearted volunteers.

“Deal Warm Welcome builds togetherness in our town, from the guests to the volunteers and now a vital lifeline of support for those living in fear of what the winter will bring.”
