Sign up to put your Best Foot Forward
Published: 02 April 2024
Deal Town Council is asking residents to sign up and pledge to swap a one mile car journey, once a week and walk or cycle instead - putting their Best Foot Forward!
The project will run from March to #CycleSeptember and to say ‘thank you’ for a pledge, those who sign up will be entered into a monthly draw for a chance to win free e-bike hire from
Hut 55.
The average petrol car produces the equivalent of 290g of CO2e every mile, so if you swapped a one-mile round trip by car once a week, in a month you've reduced your emissions by more than a kilogram*
The ambition is to sign up a thousand people which would mean that the people of Deal will have pledged a reduction of one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions.
Best Foot Forward launches on Saturday 23 March, marking the international
Earth Hour, a global movement to reverse nature loss and limit climate change.
Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “As we head into spring and summer this is a great chance to get out and about a bit more and do your bit for the planet too.
“By signing up you will be part of a very local and very global community, all trying to make a positive change.
“We all act individually but here we’re hoping to come together as a town to see how big an impact we can make, so let’s see if we can reach a thousand pledges!
“It’s an ambitious project, but if we’re going to tackle climate change, it needs to be!”
Best Foot Forward will run for six months from March 2024 to September 2024 and at the end of that time the pledges will be added up to see the size of the CO2e commitment made by Deal residents. Learn more and sign up here at
