Deal Pride 2024

Once again the Mayor and Mayoress joined the Deal Pride march on Saturday 13 July 2024.

Here in full is the address Cllr Oliver Richardson gave to the crowds at the Party on the Green.

"Ladies and gentlemen, friends, and members of our LGBTQ+ community, welcome to the second annual Deal Pride Day!

"What a fantastic sight to see so many smiling faces gathered here in celebration of love, acceptance and unity.

"Firstly, and once again, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this event possible. Your dedication and hard work are the backbone of this celebration. Let's give them a big round of applause!

"Deal is a town known for its rich history, stunning coastline, and vibrant community spirit. Today, we add another chapter to that history, one that celebrates diversity and the courage to be true to oneself. We stand here together, proud of how far we've come and committed to continuing this journey toward equality and acceptance for all.

"Pride is more than just a celebration. It’s a reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a testament to the progress we’ve made and a beacon of hope for the work still to be done. It's about ensuring that every person, regardless of who they are or who they love, feels valued, respected, and safe in our town.

"As your Mayor, I pledge my ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive environment here in Deal. This means supporting policies that protect against discrimination, ensuring that our community spaces are welcoming to all and promoting education and awareness about LGBTQ+ issues. It is through these actions that we truly honour the spirit of Pride.

"To the young people here today, know that you are seen, you are heard and you are loved. Your courage to be who you are inspires us all. Never doubt that you have a place in this world and in our community. Your dreams and aspirations are valid and achievable and we stand with you every step of the way.

"Let today be a celebration of love, joy, and unity. Dance, laugh and make new friends. Let us remember the importance of solidarity and continue to support one another. Together, we can build a community where everyone feels proud to call Deal home.
