COP on the coast - Deal Climate Action Day

"Real success can only come if there is a change in our societies and in our economics and in our politics." Sir David Attenborough
In November,
COP 29 will meet in Azerbaijan to grapple with the future of our planet.
In Deal, people will come together for the first Climate Action Day - an opportunity for everyone to learn more about our environment, what it gives to us and what we can give back to it.
More than 15 groups will take part in the open day at Deal Town Hall to demonstrate all the work that is happening locally to tackle climate change and how we can all get involved.
Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “You may be well versed on climate issues, be unsure or, maybe even a bit frightened and rather not peek from behind the curtain.
“It’s a big issue, and it’s a serious issue but most importantly we have to recognize it’s OUR issue.
“The first Deal Climate Action Day will bring us all together to learn, share and see just where we can roll up our sleeves and join in.
“But that won’t be all!
“Even if you’re not ready to roll up your sleeves, getting a top tip like scrunching up old aluminum foil to at least the size of a tennis ball so it can go into the recycling, all heads towards change.
“There is room for everyone in the climate change debate - we’re hoping you join in!”
Groups taking part in Deal Climate Action Day include: Friends of Betteshanger, Deal With It, Sandown Castle Community Garden Group, East Kent Climate Action, Walmer Town Council, Dover District Council, Pick Deal Clean, Deal Radio, Evolution Music, Deal Repair Café, Walmer and Deal Action for Swifts (WALDAS) and Deal Town Council.
Deal Climate Action Day will be held on Saturday 16 November 2024 from 10am to 2pm at Deal Town Hall. It is free to attend and more information about climate action can be found here at
