Deal Town Council celebrates International Women’s Day

Published: 19 February 2025

Deal Town Council will once again host an evening of celebration and support for International Women’s Day (IWD).

The IWD 2025 campaign theme is 'Accelerate Action'. At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158, which is roughly five generations from now, to reach full gender parity, according to data from the World Economic Forum.

Accelerate Action is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women's advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.

On Friday 7 March from 7pm there will be a reception at Deal Town Hall for women to gather, network and enjoy good company.

Guests are encouraged to donate gifts of either period products or hygiene products to help local people struggling with period poverty.

Town Clerk Lorna Crow said: “It is so important we mark International Women’s Day, explore its themes and turn that into direct local action too.

“According to Water Aid, 1 in 4 UK women and girls struggle to afford period products and that in turns leads to them missing out on school, work and a host of other activities.

“Our reception not only invites the women of Deal to enjoy an evening of great company, it also helps those in our town who may struggle with period poverty”

A short film produced by the Elect Her team will also be shared during the evening. Elect Her is an organization working to motivate, support and equip women in all their diversity to stand for political office, and thrive once there.

The reception will include drinks and nibbles and is over 18s only. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance due to limited capacity. To book your place contact Joanne.Harper@deal.gov.uk or call 07887 491569 and download the poster here.
