Deal Town Council’s journey beyond Net Zero

Published: 12 March 2025

In 2019 Deal Town Council announced a climate emergency and pledged to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2025.

That goal was achieved by April 2024 and to celebrate that achievement have produced a film, documenting the ambitious journey.

In February, Full Council adopted a new Climate Action Strategy which builds on the decarbonization commitment and strengthens the environment adaptation & improvement plan.

Mayor of Deal Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “We’re proud of reaching our net zero goal but it’s the ‘what next’ that is really going to make an impact.

“There’s been a real team effort to get here but we all understand we must go further and beyond the boundaries of the Town Hall.

“The updated Climate Strategy builds on all we have done and goes further with a clear intention to help everyone tackle climate change.

“Actions big and small are required to help safeguard our world and here in Deal there’s great passion and determination to do just that.”
