2025 Bathing Water Profile for Deal Castle is 'good'
Published: 25 November 2025
The Environment Agency has today (25/11/25) upgraded the
bathing water profile for Deal Castle to 'good'.
There had been a steady decline in the quality of Deal’s bathing water, from excellent in 2019 to the poor rating in 2024.
In response to the new classification, Mayor of Deal, Cllr Mike Eddy said: "We can all be exceptionally proud of how we, as a town, have come together to pressurise and lobby those responsible and have held their feet to the fire.
“The sea is woven into every fibre of Deal; our history, our prosperity, our future. And it nurtures us, be it walking along the shore, swimming, fishing, sailing and since that poor classification, it feels as if we have lost a friend.
“We have all learned a lot since August 2024 when the health of our shores was so dramatically called into question. The life and lives it sustains will no more be taken for granted.
“While we welcome the new rating, we know more must be done and we will continue to question, continue to challenge and continue to find ways for us all to take action until the water quality is excellent once again.”
