Seeds for Spring – our bloomin’ great give away!

Published: 23 February 2026

Ox eye daisesSeeds for Spring 2026 is now open for you to register and collect a free pack of native flowers to fuel our pollinators.

The packets will cover approximately one square meter and contain perennial wildflowers and annuals to blossom in the first year of planting.

In 2025 a Declaration on UK Insect Declines was issued at the Wild Summit, calling for urgent, coordinated action to address the steep and ongoing losses in the United Kingdom’s insect populations.

According to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, 2024 was the worst year for bumblebees since records began. Across Great Britain, bumblebee numbers declined by almost a quarter (22.5%) compared to the 2010-2023 average.

Mayor of Deal Cllr Mike Eddy said: “These nectar rich blooms will provide much needed sustenance for all our pollinators including ants, moths, wasps, bees and butterflies.

“These small but mighty creatures are vital to our survival and are industrious in our eco-systems.

“By dedicating a patch of your garden to these Kentish wildflowers you’ll be creating a perfect pit-stop for nature as well as creating a beautiful border that will change season upon season and, hopefully, year upon year.”

There are 100 seed packets that will be given away and they include Oxeye daisy, Cornflower, Kidney vetch, St john's wort, Corncockle, Musk-mallow and Field-forget-me-not.

In the summer, we’ll ask if you can share with us photographs of the wildflowers and stories of the pollinators you have welcomed.
