There are three raised planting beds available for local groups and charities to run, free of charge, to encourage people to get involved in nature, get gardening, get active and get outdoors.

The scheme begins with a trial run this summer before opening in full in Spring 2027.

The raised beds are on the Park Avenue allotment site which has improved pathways and handrail for accessibility and a compost toilet for convenience.

Mayor of Deal Cllr Mike Eddy said: “We’re delighted to get this project up and running and ready to trial this summer as there is lots of growing that can be done.

“We’re encouraging local groups to apply so those they support can experience the joy of growing their own food, being part of a team and being closely involved in nature and our environment.

“Learning about where we sit in the cycle of nature, how to nurture and benefit from it are such rich experiences.”

The summer trial runs from June 2026 to March 2027 and subsequent years will run the full 12 months from April to March.

The deadline for summer applications is Friday 22 May and further details about how to apply can be found here.
