Deal not selected for the Town of Culture 2028 shortlist

We have received the news from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport that Deal has not been selected for the Town of Culture 2028 shortlist.

Here is the response from the Mayor of Deal, Cllr Mike Eddy

Although our journey to become the inaugural Town of Culture has been cut short, I believe Deal’s destination remains one of better community, better access and far greater inclusion.

We joined almost 400 other towns, vying to win the £3 million top prize and it has been an extremely beneficial experience.

While it is disappointing not to have made the shortlist, we have forged stronger links with our communities and are in a much stronger position to seek other opportunities for the town.

I would like to extend my thanks for all the time, support and encouragement that has been shown for Deal’s bid.

Deal is, and will always be, a unique town, ever-changing and alive with hope.
