He was joined by the Mayoress, his wife MaryAnn, the Town Clerk and the new Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress Cllr Mike Eddy and Christine Oliver.
The ceremony was also witnessed by Cinque Port Mayors. Here below is the speech delivered on the night by the Worshipful Town Mayor of Deal.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, honoured guests, fellow Mayors and Councillors, and citizens of Deal thank you for coming.
"For the second time it is my distinct honour and privilege to be here before you today as the Mayor of this wonderful town.
"Firstly, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Deputy Mayor and the Mayoress, Adrian & Tracy, for their unwavering support, dedication and advice. Your commitment has been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for all you have both done to make our community stronger and more vibrant.
"A special thanks goes to the Mayoress, MaryAnn my wife, who has been by my side throughout this journey. Your steadfast support and enthusiastic participation in representing Deal have been truly remarkable. Together, we have shared many memorable moments, and your presence has been a source of strength and joy.
"I also want to acknowledge and thank the Mayor's Cadet, Kai Smith, whose assistance and enthusiasm have been truly commendable. Your dedication to serving our town is inspiring, and I was delighted to have you by my side.
"Reflecting on the past year, I am filled with joy and pride as I recall the many events I was invited to and had the pleasure of attending. From the
women’s football festival, celebrating origins of women in football to the opening of the
Deal & Arts Festival, which showcased our town's musical prowess, and the vibrant
Deal Carnival that brought our community together in celebration.
Deal Pride was a particularly heartwarming event, highlighting the inclusivity and diversity that we cherish. The Mayoress enjoyed celebrating
International Women's Day with all of you was empowering, and the
Lantern Parade on the pier was nothing short of magical, lighting up our spirits as well as our beautiful town.
"Throughout the year, I have had the honour of representing Deal at numerous civic events alongside other Cinque Port towns. These occasions have not only strengthened our bonds with the neighbouring towns but also highlighted the unique character and charm of Deal.
"Looking ahead, I am excited for another full and fun-packed year. One of the key events we all eagerly anticipate is the installation of the new Lord Warden, Admiral Sir George Zambellas, on the 29th of October. This will be a significant occasion for our town, and I am confident it will be a memorable and proud moment for all of us.
"Finally, I must express my deepest gratitude to the Town Clerk and all the officers of Deal Town Council. Your tireless efforts behind the scenes ensure that the Council and the town run smoothly. Your hard work often goes unnoticed, but it is essential to the success and well-being of our community. Thank you for your dedication and service.
"Together, let us continue to build on our achievements, face new challenges with determination, and create a brighter future for Deal. I look forward to serving you all in the coming year and to sharing many more wonderful experiences with this incredible community.
"Thank you."
