Net Zero target reached six months early
Published: 22 July 2024

Deal Town Council’s annual independent audit has revealed its ambition to reach Net Zero by 2025 has been met early.
A review of the council’s operations and projects by
Stem Sustainability show the ambitious target has been “effectively reached 6-months early”
The report states that Deal Town Council continues to make excellent progress and the decarbonisation trajectory remains downwards. (Read in full here at

Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson said: “Deal Town Council declared a climate emergency five years ago and this report is the sum of a very collective effort.
“We knew it would be ambitious to reach Net Zero by 2025 but the commitment and determination was always there.
“Deal is a unique town in many ways, including the very real groundswell of voices and action that work so hard to improve our environment.
“We are taking a moment to welcome this great news but you will not find us resting on our laurels - we know this is part of a long journey and much, much more still needs to be done.”
Activities have been focused on the council’s estate – the Town Hall and three allotment sites at Mill Road, Park Avenue and Golf Road. Projects have included
free water butts for plot holders to collect rainwater and
330 metres of hedgerow that has been planted.
Work is now underway encouraging more people to be part of positive climate change with initiatives such as
Best Foot Forward, encouraging people to swap a short car ride once a week and walk or cycle instead,
Deal Home Kitchen sharing tasty veggie or vegan dishes and
Grow the Rainbow which saw almost 100 Beebombs given out at
Deal Pride, planting a floral rainbow across the town.
